We flew from LAX to Charlotte to Asheville. Quite a cross country journey. B is a flying pro. This was her 5th trip to fly (a lot more flights, I just can't remember/count them all!). She likes to be on the go more these days, so keeping her entertained for the 5 hour flight proved more challenging. She slept a little, looked at brochures, and walked the aisle with daddy. We even got to watch a little bit of anchorman 2 on the iPad.
We started our North Carolina brew tour when we landed in charlotte at the airport chills. NC has some good brews!
Chris (Evy's hubby) picked us up at the asheville airport and 30 minutes later we were at camp with the rest of the family! We had come from California, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, and South Carolina to celebrate the Jones name!
We had pretty much taken over the first floor of the lodge. Lauren and made us signs for the doors so we knew where everyone's room was. We never locked our doors and we would just mingle from room to room lounging on the patios and drinking Bittermilk. Bittermilk is my cousin's cocktail mixer company that is blowing up right now. They were having their busiest week since opening but still managed to make it to the reunion. Why we were at camp, Anthropologie AND Fresh Market picked them up (they are already in Whole Foods!). Go Mare and Joe!
This is the courtyard in the middle of the dining hall and the lodge. Some of our patios opened up to this courtyard and the kids had fun running around here.
Some of the Greats: Breckin (1), Juniper (1), Felix (1), Hudson (3), and Hazel (2)
Breckin's first s'more. Each night there was a fun activity. S'mores night, Bingo night (jess won a t-shirt!), Blue grass night, carnival night, trivia night (Team Royall won…oh yeah), and square dance night. Fun had by adults and kids alike!
Chris would take the kids fishing with grasshoppers using just a stick with some fishing wire. The perch would bite immediately!
watching the kids fish on the fishin' dock
Lauren and I went whitewater rafting with DAD! It was such a fun day. The French Broad River with some class 3 rapids. Beautiful day and the water temp was perfect. Whitewater rafting was on Dad's bucket list and he did it! I am a proud daughter =)
Some other things we did: yoga, hike in the rain, front porch rocking chair sittin'/rain listenin'/lake watchin', played corn hole, drank bittermilk/gin and tonics/beer, archery, and basket weaving!
Daycare was offered from 9-12. We dropped breckin off at daycare on Monday. They reported back that the only thing to make her not cry was to push her around in a stroller around this tiny track in the play yard. She was being pushed around in the stroller holding a torn up baby doll and somebody else's sippy cup with the most stern grimace on her face when I went to get her. It was sad.
We went ahead and tried again on Tuesday. They called us and made us come get her b/c she would not stop crying and they did not want to push her in the stroller the whole time. So, Breckin was officially kicked out of daycare. Fail. We did not take her back again.
Breckin, G, and Felix
Hazel and Desmond
We spent a couple of afternoons lakeside. They had this small beach area roped off that was perfect for the little ones! The adults lounged on the beach, talked and ate boiled peanuts…a south carolina/jones family tradition.
Felix and Brad looking like twins.
Gram giving a speech on why family reunions are important.
Breckin, Hazel, Genevieve, Felix
Mom and Me. Dressed like twins by accident!
Breckin and her daddy
Brad's mom made these matching outfits for B and G…adorable!
The girl loves her accessories. Eating lunch in Felix's shades.
The blue grass trio were awesome! Leave it to the Jones family to be the only ones dancing. Hazel and Hudson above.
Felix had some moves
Sarah, the eldest of the greats, was so sweet with all the littles all week. She helped us out a lot!
Breckin can break it down
These two had some sweet moments all week! They are the closest in age. Felix was born 4/6 and Breckin 6/11
No brooms are safe around this lady
I have been wearing my hair in a ponytail everyday for the last 2 years…it was time to chop it off! We borrowed some scissors from the front desk and Sus chopped off about foot off my hair. I'm loving it!
Breckin took good long naps everyday. Not so much during the night though. We had a scary night at the end of the week. Breckin got in bed with me in the middle of the night. After she nursed and we fell back asleep she fell out of the bed and let out a blood curdling scream. I picked her up and she immediately started puking and there was blood in it. I panicked and went to wake up Liz (former nurse). We all sat up for about an hour to monitor B. Liz did not see signs of a concussion and she just had a small strawberry on her head (surprising b/c they were concrete floors!) She did not puke again and woke up enough to laugh and play with us. Liz said the blood could have been from biting her tongue or lip when she fell. She pretty much nursed every hour throughout the night and I barely slept b/c I was so worried about her! We pushed the bed up against the wall after that incident!

Then it was time to leave. The Royalls and the Schatzels extended our vacation for one more day with a day/night in Asheville. Jess and I did Asheville on our 2012 road trip and we were excited to get back. It is a laid back, mountain, college town. Lots of good beer, food and cute shops. Our hotel was right downtown, so we were able to walk around and get the kids back to the hotel for a nap.

Ben was putting the beat down on this poor girl
Jelly belles from the candy shop! Ben started crossing his legs like his daddy this trip. Mini Brad!
Cool name, ehh food
While the kids were napping, Lo and I got tattoos! I have been wanting one on my wrist for awhile. This is a tribute to my family as it is now: Jess + Lane + Breckin = we are not 3 we are 1
We spent the rest of the evening bar hopping and trying different NC brews. It was so fun and the kids were pretty good sports. By the last one, all the schatzel kids were laying down asleep in the booth!
The Schatzels left early Sunday morning but our flight was not until 8:30 pm! We lounged in our hotel while B took a 3 hour nap! We walked around some more and had lunch.
Interesting wall we saw
chasing pigeons in the park
We have our own cologne line apparently…too expensive to buy some, so we just took a pic
Asheville airport…all airports should have this!
Our flight was delayed in Asheville, and we narrowly made it onto our charlotte connection after running from terminal B to terminal E with a backpack and baby on my hip (like, we buckled our seat belts and the plane started moving). I felt really out of shape.
The Friday before we left camp, it rain ALL day. For the majority of the morning we sat in the rockers on the big porch that overlooked the lake. We watched the rain, talked, drank coffee, worked on computers and starting planning our next Jones Family Celebration for 2016. I can't wait.
