14 month letter

Dear Brecky,
This was a fast month! We spent the majority of the month hanging low key around our house trying to live on love and not spend money.  This has worked out because you are much more of a handful in public these days!  We have gone on lots of walks to the park and around the neighborhood.  We went to a free Thursday night concert at the Santa Monica Pier (we went to almost every one of these last summer!).  We used the bike trailer for the first time and went down to the beach.  You loved it, but you were not a fan of wearing a helmet!  We went to a free class at Gymboree.  We went to story time at the library. We cleaned out the side yard and started work on making it a special play area just for you.  We built a teepee our of bamboo from the back yard.  The last week, we spent 7 days at Camp Kanuga at the Jones Family Celebration.  It was so much fun!  You got to bond with your cousins and second cousins.  There were so many kids!  There was Ben, Des, and G - you picked up right where you left off in OK.  Then there were your second cousins:  Sarah (15), Robert (11), Hudson (3), Hazel (2), Juniper (1) and Felix (1).  You had your first experience of being left at a daycare.  You were not happy about this and cried the whole time unless you were being pushed in a stroller or fed.  One day, you even got kicked out!!  I can't blame you.  We have barely been apart since you have been born.  My little attachment baby.

You have the cutest dance moves.  You like to turn in circles and wag your finger in the air.  You also like to clap and stomp your feet.  There is one where you stand stationary and just bounce up and down bending your knees.  My new favorite is your "lyrical" dance that is mostly in the hands and it looks like you are doing a cross between ballet and interpretive dancing.  You love music and you will usually stop what you are doing when you hear music to break out a dance move.  You have figured out how to turn up the record player too.  You never turn it down…only up =)

You still love your dollies.  You try to carry as many of them as possible around the house.  You will often start fussing from your crib after your nap because you are trying to pull your dolls through your crib rails and they are not fitting.  You love to explore new places and you are rarely stationary.  You love to walk and roam.  You will not stay in your wraps very long anymore before you start to squirm.  I even let you walk on our walks around the neighborhood sometimes. You are starting to push the limits, so we have had to start enforcing rules and boundaries.  Sometimes you listen, mostly you don't.  Your favorite thing to do is run in the complete opposite direction of where we want you to go.  You think this is hilarious.  You still love to play the Breeeeeckin Adaaaaaair game, where we say your name real slow and you run away squealing with delight.  Sometimes you'll start running/walking away but turn your head over your shoulder so you can still see us.  This makes you veer direction and you usually run into something…like the bar, a chair, or the wall. You started hitting in North Carolina.  Your cousins, Ben and Des, were getting real close to your face and you were slugging them every time!  You've got a tough streak in you.  So, we had to have our first conversation about not punching people in the face.

You love baths again, and you don't mind when I dump Pete cups of water over your head.  You are a frequent flyer now, and you do a pretty good job.  It is not easy for anyone to fly cross country!

You still love your bubba and it is one of your favorite words.  You have said quite a few things and you babble nonstop,  but your main, unprompted vocabulary is mama, dada, bubba, buh (bird), buh (ball), buh buh (bellybutton),  da yee (doggie),  da (dog), esh (yes),  ba (bye) and whoa! (this is my fave!).  You said No! for the first time and it was directed at me.  I did not like that one very much.   Bye was a new one this month.  The first time you said it was when I got off the phone with your daddy and said bye, you followed with a stretched out "byyyyye" in a super cute hick accent.  Ever since, you say it real quick like "ba".  Your daddy says it sounds just like how I say bye on the phone.

You are starting to put sequences together.  You love to wipe things down.  You do this with your clothes, toilet paper, paper towels, or dish towels.  You love to clean!  You like to hold the broom and sweep.  You even pretend that you are pushing a vacuum cleaner with a stick.  You like to bring us clothes that you want to put on.  You try to put on your own shoes and you love to put on mommy and daddy's shoes.  You will turn anything into a purse.  I gave you an old make up back with a strap on it. But you also like to use your plastic bucket, a cardboard box with a strap that holds your magnets, grocery bags, etc.  You will put things inside your "purses" and walk around with them hanging from your arm.  You love accessories period.  You will hand me your necklaces to put on you, and you break out into a huge grin when you are wearing a hat or sunglasses.  You will bring me your sippie cup when you want water.  You will bring us books when you want us to read to you (which is ALL the time).  You still love your baby bug magazine/books.  They are already so worn and ripped from so much use.  Your daddy and I pretty much have them memorized.  You especially like this rhyme from one of the books:

I hide behind the bathroom door
See daddy crawl across the floor

He's getting close
what should I do?
When I jump out
We both say Boo!

We are still doing 3 meals a day plus snacks in between lunch and dinner.  You are not into sitting in your highchair.  You would much rather be on the move while you eat.  you will even gather up everything on your plate into your hands and ask to be done so you can get down.  I try to make you stay in your chair for as long as possible so you make less mess!  You are getting better at using a spoon and fork, and you prefer to practice these than use your hands.  You are a pretty good eater, but when we are out with other babies you want to eat only what the other babies have.  You love meat, cheese, crackers, cheerios, dried fruit, and beans.  Veggies and fruit are hit and miss.

You had a definite growth spurt this month.  Your jellies, which were too big at the beginning of the month, barely fit at the family celebration!  Your clothes also seem to fit more snugly.  You are less baby and more kid.  I think your eyes are officially hazel.  Your hair has not had a growth spurt!  It is still blonde with barely there ringlets around your ears.  You are the best cuddler and kisser when you are feeling sweet.  One time you said "maaaaaaaaaam" out of the blue and gave me several sweet pats on the back with some kisses.  I think I melted into the floor.

You have been a good overall sleeper this month! You are taking a 2-3 hour nap around 10 or 11 am, then you are down for the evening between 7-8 pm.  You might wake up around 3 am, but you will usually sleep until 5-7 am.  You do not put up much of a fight anymore and we can get you down relatively easily.  I still nurse you down most of the time and daddy will dance and sing to you.

You are an independent, sensitive, fun loving, coy, smart, sweet, and curious little girl.  It's like that britney spears song, "not a baby, not yet a girl"…or something like that.

We love you to the super moon and back,
mommy and daddy
