July 12-14: Alexandria, Virginia (Washington D.C.)

Day 1:
It was a good 8 hour drive to Alexandria.  We drove for at least 4 hours straight through Tobacco country.  Every house we saw had an attached tobacco farm.  Pretty cool.  We broke up the drive with a stop in Richmond, VA for...wait for it...more BBQ.  Leon got to stretch his legs a bit in a nearby park, and then we packed it back in for the rest of the journey.  We crossed the James River and started to listen to a lot of Old Crow Medicine Show on the car ride.
We got to the Red Roof Inn around 6, laid our wet tent and clothes around the hotel room, and headed down to King Street for a dog friendly happy hour.  Leon was a bit crazy at first because there were ALOT of dogs.  after about 15 minutes he chilled down .  We enjoyed a few beers and met some nice people sitting next to us.  We then headed to King Street Blues for dinner.  Im going to let you guess what we had for dinner.

Day 2:
We intended to spend the entire day in DC, but Lane woke up with a crucial headache.  We dropped Leon off at doggie day care, Lane slept her headache off, and we were able to catch the metro in Alexandria for DC and arrive around 2:00.  We walked the entire national mall and then some!  We were able to see everything we wanted to see except the Newseum.  We had to get back to doggie daycare and pick Leon up by 7:00.  We made it in the knick of time.  We thought about going back to King Street, but our feet hurt and Lane was still not 100%.  We watched Adjustment Bureau and a couple of crime dramas instead.  Not too exciting, but we needed the rest.

Day 3:
We woke up, did a little laundry, and packed up. The room felt a little moist as we left because of all of our drying camping gear we had left out, with little ventilation in the room.  We hit Arby’s on the way out of town and headed for Jersey City!
