Camping + 12 for 12 Hike #8

We finally pulled the trigger and penciled in a family camping trip this past weekend.  Sometimes you just need drive out of the city and sleep in a tent.  We didn't have to go far.  Just about 45 minute drive up the PCH north of Malibu to a little gem of a beach campground called Leo Carillo.  It is right on the "county line" (Ventura and Los Angeles) which is known for it's good surf, so we lots of surfers.  Lots of families too.  And lots of single young 20 somethings which made jess and I reminisce of our camping life pre-breckin.  It is a little different these days, but we had so much fun!  We definitely have ourselves a little camper.  She loved running around the campsite playing with her baseball bat and ball.  She loved playing kitchen with the camp kitchen supplies.  And the girl loves to sleep in a tent.

**our phones were dead most of the trip so we didn't get many pictures.

before we went to pick daddy up from work, we had to run around the block to burn some energy!

PCH the whole way

Stopped at Zuma Beach for a look

Neptune's Net

B was entertaining folks with her dance moves

We made sure we were all packed up, so B and I could pick daddy up at work at 4:30 on Friday and hit the road.  We wanted to make it to Neptune's Net for the sunset, fish tacos and some beer before we set up camp.  The fish tacos and atmosphere was so good that we agreed to go back for more on saturday since it was just a couple of miles from the campsite!

delicious breakfast!

I spy a little B!

We set up camp with head lamps and started a fire.  The forecast was cold and rainy for the weekend, but we didn't care!  we bundled up next to the fire and B passed out quick.  While she slept in the tent, jess and I drank beer and ate s'mores.  When we got too cold, we snuggled up in the tent with our headphones on and watched St. Vincent on the iPad…Glamping!
happy to hike...

yellows!

We woke up on the cold, hard ground because there is no air mattress on this planet that will hold air for a full night's sleep.  But it was 7 am which is late for us!!  Jess made us coffee and started a fire so we could be cozy while he whipped up a delicious scramble.  We bundled up and went searching for a nearby hike.  We chose one that went up into the hills behind the campground for some pretty ocean views and tons and tons of yellow wildflowers and cactus.  B was pointing out all the "yellows".

We headed back to the site to put B down for a nap, and we sat in our camp chairs soaking up some sunshine that was peeking through the clouds.  We played some uke and ate chicken salad sandwiches. B woke up and we played some more at the campsite before heading out for some late afternoon fish tacos and beer at Neptunes Net.   We wanted to get down to the beach for some play and sunset.  It was cold, but you can't keep B out of the water!  She loves it.  she ran through the water and dug in the sand with her hands.  We headed back before it got too dark to start our bonfire.  It was time for more s'mores and snuggles!  The rain finally came Saturday night after we were snuggly in the tent.  It poured for most of the night.  I love a rainstorm in a tent!  It was so loud, but Breckin did not stir all night.  My little camper.
