12 Field Trips in 12 Months: Los Angeles Zoo (#2)

We headed to the Los Angeles Zoo on Friday for our second field trip of the year.

This was the only underwater creature we saw:  a seal.  He was taking a quick nap.
(well we did see some fish…including piranhas!)

silverback gorilla!

she loved this monument for Caesar.

She is pointing to the letters.  She got "A" and "E" correct!
There were lots of new babies at the zoo like this family of hippos!  look close and you can see the tiny baby hippo snuggled up near the mama's head.  I learned that hippos nurse underwater!  We also saw a mama orangutan nursing her brand new baby, koala babies, and piranha babies.

That is a cute little koala wedged in the tree.

We rode the famous carousel of Griffith Park, and Breckin was terrified the whole time!  We chose a bear for her to sit on, but she only sat on it for a few seconds.  I held her for most of the ride.

We saw Billy the Elephant.

and this fake looking rhino
And a flock of flamingos!

And Breckin got up close and personal with the goats.  She pet them, watched them eat and brushed them.

Brooke, brett and wilder met us there!

It was a fun adventure.  We got to the zoo as soon as it opened (10 am) and left around 1:30 (a bit later than we had planned!).  B was really into the animals the majority of the time.  And while it is neat to see all these animals that are in her books, it also starts to get sad when you think about the caged up animals for too long.  Aside from there not being one gosh dang coffee stand in the entire zoo and Breckin face planting off the stroller into the cement (busted lip and scabbed up nose), it was a fabulous morning exploring the wild side of LA.  Breckin was asleep before we even left the parking lot.
