The original plan for field trip #10 was to head downtown to check out the new contemporary art museum, The Broad. It just opened and is hugely popular, so we knew we needed a back up plan if it was too crowded (tickets are free but the line gets long)
We met our friends, Brooke and Wilder, at the metro station to take the train downtown…which both kids love to do! They were so excited. They held hands on the walk. Sidenote: while we were getting dressed for the museum, B insisted on wearing a necklace, bracelet, purse and sunglasses! This was a first…she usually doesn't want to wear ANYTHING. She wanted to look extra fancy.
see her purse?? =)
filling our TAP cards!
Snacks on the train
Walking to the museum from the train station
There is the Broad! and dang…the line was tooooo long.
So we headed to the nearby Grand Central Market which is an indoor market place inside a huge warehouse type building downtown. Basically a ton of cool, trendy food vendors. It was really neat!
We took turns walking around and picking out food. We had sausages, french fries, tacos, pupusas (meat pie), coke float and ice cream!
We stopped by Pershing Square on our way back to the train. It is a grassy area in the middle of the tall buildings.
Jess ran around with the kids and played hide and seek.
I tried to play hide and seek, but it proved challenging.
Although it wasn't the original plan, we had fun exploring our city. We do not get downtown enough. It is constantly being revitalized, so there is always something new to see. We will have to try the Broad again when the new wears off and it is not so popular.
