4 Month Letter

Dear B,
4 Month Check Up:
14 pounds 3.5 ounces
26 inches long

I write you this letter, already two days late, due to suffering our first family illness together.  You closed out your 4th month with a bang by projectile vomiting and having diarrhea everywhere.  Your dad and I eventually joined in, and we have been a pretty pathetic sight.  Your daddy even took off work for the day, which I don't think has ever happened!  We are slowly but surely crawling back to a sense of normal, so I will try to remember as much about your 4th month as I can before it is a fleeting memory...

Much of the month was spent in Oklahoma.  You and I were there for 17 days!  We got to meet so many family members and friends, and you got to smell that Okie air for the first time!  We spent a week at your aunt Lauren and uncle Eric's house in Edmond with Nana and Happy.  Nana, Happy and Lauren kept you while we went to a wedding in Oklahoma City.  It was the longest we had been apart, and you did pretty good!  You were sound asleep on Nana on the couch when we got home.  You had special trips to Mimi's and to Tulsa to meet DG, Bill, Great Grandaddy (GG), Suzanne, TC, Gary, Aimee and Foster.  Your daddy left after a week and we headed to the farm.  Another first.  You met your cousins Ben and Des for the first time and they loved all over you the whole week.  I would always catch Des patting your head to make you feel better.  Genevieve continued her love affair with you and was constantly checking in on her "baby".  Mimi, Sus, and Felix came during the middle of the week, and you got your pictures taken!  You met your uncle Brad at the end of the week when he made it back from Denmark.  You also met Carrie, Candy, Matt, Gardner, Meston, Kendra, and loads of other Okie friends!

You learned so much while being around your Schatzel cousins and Felix.  You definitely started using your voice more.  You were inspired by the shrieking schatzels =).  You were in the swing holding an old Raggedy Ann doll at Gaga's house and you started to squeal with delight and did not stop for a solid 20 minutes.  It was awesome. You also saw Felix (he is two months older) sitting up on his own, and you started to sit up better with less support!

You have s good grip and love to pull on my hair.  You have started to rub your eyes when you're sleepy and it might be my favorite thing yet.  You still love to chomp on your hand but it is a little more coordinated, usually just your pointer and ring finger.

You have two conversation voices.  One is really soft and girly, and you have to listen real closely to hear.  You will lightly sound out consanants (da, da, da...ma, ma, ma....ga, ga, ga) This voice is so cute.  It gives me a glimpse of what your real voice will sound like.  Your other voice is squealing/shrieking loudly and then gasping/sucking air back in over and over...with a giggle here and there.  Not as easy on the ears, but still cute.

You have started to grab toys and put them in your mouth.  You are an expert at tummy time, but still only like it for short periods.  You have even rolled from your tummy to your back a couple of times!  You really like to be held facing out so you can see what is going on. I can hardly get away with carrying you facing me in the wrap.  Your sleep schedule has been wacky through Oklahoma and with being sick.  I am hoping for a sense of normalcy in this area soon!  You love to lay on your back and grab your feet.  You are smiling a lot.  You love mommy and daddy kisses, leg/feet rubs, and blowing bubbles/rasberries.

Nursing has become an event as you have started to get distracted easily.  You constantly let go, look up and smile at me, as if you are checking in to make sure I am still there. You went to your first OSU football game while we were in OK.  We tailgated and you sat through the whole second half in the wrap.  It was a close one, but we beat K-State. You have grown out of most of your Newborn - 3 month stuff.  This makes me sad every time I pack these tiny clothes away knowing that chapter is over.  You have one tiny patch of your newborn, dark hair left.  Your aunt Candy calls it your "soul patch".  Your hair still seems to change color all the time, but you are getting more of it!

The days are feeling more fall like, and you have even needed a hoodie a couple of times!  You like walks in your jogger which I am excited to get back out since we have been back from OK.  We will be pretty stationary over this next month and I am excited to get back into our routine of mom's group, college football saturdays, chiropractor, walks, pilates, nakey time, and gardening.

We love you so much Breckin Boo!
