*woke early! 6:30 a.m.
*Jess made breakfast (scambies and toast)
*packed up and headed to Big Sur! headed out about 9:30 a.m.
*stopped for groceries about 40 miles from Big Sur. Heard that the PCH was closed due to fires!
*Called Riverside Campground to see if we needed other accomodations. STILL OPEN! But we have to take an alternate route. This little "alternate route" turns into a huge shenanigan. Thinking we only have 40 miles to go....we have to turn around, find hwy 101, and ended up tagging 200 miles to our trip.
*the good news is that we got to see about 50 elephant seals. They are HUGE! and stinky.
*We finally arrived at Riverside in Big Sur around 5:30. The fires were pretty close and the firefigher helicopters were flying overhead.
*Camped right on the Big Sur river with huge trees all around.
*Jess made burgers, and I made the potato and onion dish again.
*It was really chilly, so we bundled up, got in our tent with the lanterns and read our books. It was so peaceful with the rushing river in the background.

Heading North
Fires on the PCH!
First misadventure of teh trip.
Saw elephant seals (turns out they can run faster than a human).
Set up camp at dusk on the banks of the Big Sur.
The shallow river is much louder than the nearby highway.
We awoke to an orange sun, the campsite was dusted by the falling ashes.
Burning, orange sun from the campsite. so orange. so many fires.
Jess washing our dishes in the river. with bio degradable soap!!
View from our tent.
so many elephant seals!! on our drive up there.
One of the many incredible views driving up the PCH.
The river runs in front of our tent.
