Rothbury!!

**July 1st - 7th**

So...this was the trip of the summer. We LOVE going to music festivals. we intended to go to High Sierra again in NorCal, but the line up was not so good this year. We had a lot of friends going to Rothbury in Michigan and when the line up came out....how could we resist!! We decided to save and splurge. Here are a few bands we saw:

The String Cheese Incident (one incident only since they broke up 2 years ago...BEST SHOW)
The Dead
Black Crowes
Bob Dylan
Government Mule
Keller Williams
Umphrey's McGee
Yonder Mountain String Band
Willie Nelson
Nas w/ Damian Marley
a glimpse of Flogging Molly
and many more....

Our journey began when we took the red eye Tuesday Night. First time to take a red eye. It was not a very comfortable sleep. We arrived at Grand Rapids early Wednesday morning. We went to our hotel, slept a few winks, went for lunch, and met up with some friends we were camping with (chunk, casey, Kammie, tyler) for dinner. Chunk picked us up early Thursday morning so the 6 of us could hit up the grocery store before heading to rothbury. After about an hour roaming the aisles of the biggest grocery store I've ever been in, we were off! We landed in Rothbury about an hour later, went through security, and started setting up camp. If you've never been to one of these festivals...this is something you've got to see before your die. 1000's and 1000's of tents lined up one right after the other in the middle of nowhere. All gathered together for one thing only....4 days of good music.

Day 1:

about to hit the road in grand rapids!!

our awesome campsite. it's better in charter country.

first beer of the weekend. Camp is set up!! We camped with about 10 people. We came from CA, Chunk and Casey came from Denver, and everyone else came from OK. We were the only ones that flew. Everyone else drove. When we combined everyone's camping gear we had quite a set up!! We had 2 pop up tents that covered the "kitchen". 2 grills a few tables and an actual camp kitchen set up. It was high class and made for some very tasty meals! People would actually stop by our camp when we were cooking to buy stuff b/c they thought we were a vendor!! sorry suckers.

Night one.

It was Kammie's B-day. Casey had made a cake prior and surprised her at the site!

The beetlejuice gate entrance into the Sherwood Forest. This was a magical place =) There were 3 big stages at the festival. To get to the 2 main stages from the camping area you had to walk through the forest. At night there were tons of lights in the trees, things floating around, people walking around on stilts, etc. You never knew what you would run into. We would always take a break in the forest and people watch. We also started calling it the "Forbidden Forest"

Monday morning we woke early and were out of there by 8:30. Our lovely friends chunk and casey gave us a ride back to grand rapids where we were staying in a hotel for the night. It was nice to sleep off the four days. We woke up on Tuesday, hung out at grand rapids airport for way to long, and made it back to LA late Tuesday night. What a trip!
